Cook Venison
Venison cookbooks, recipes and gourmet ingredients. Your guide to good deer eats.
Why venison?
Venison is a lean, healthy source of protein and iron. Low in fat and high in flavor, venison can become a regular part of your diet.
There are plenty of reasons to cook and eat venison, including the health and safety of eating wild game versus other meats, the unique flavors of wild game, and the satisfaction of knowing you're eating a natural food.
"Four ounces of venison supplies 68.5% of the daily value for protein for only 179 calories and 1.4 grams of saturated fat. Venison is a good source of iron, providing 28.2% of the daily value for iron in that same four-ounce serving....especially because, in comparison to beef, a well known source of iron, venison provides well-absorbed iron for less calories and fat." --The George Mateljan Foundation, June 26, 2007
Finding fresh venison
If you have a deer hunter in your family, you know what it means to be blessed with an abundent supply of fresh meat to freeze for later eating. Otherwise, you might be able to find venison at your butcher's or in the grocery.
Venison can be harder to find in rural grocery markets, but these days, that shouldn't stop you from enjoying deer meat. Several popular online stores now carry venison products which can be shipped directly to your home. You can enjoy venison anytime.
